Just an ordinary dreamer – I wanted to change the world
So I joined my country in the fight for peace
And I never set out to be the hero, but the hero’s day has come
so many other heroes than me.
And I’m not the same soldier I was before
I heard that battle cry, and they shipped me off to war
I believe I’m better somehow, and I’m proud.
Oh American, I’m proud to be home with you
And I’m free – America we’re free
Please don’t take for granted what freedom’s done for you
Let’s not forget the fallen soldiers – the wounded and the dead
who left the barren desert painted crimson red.
I can almost hear their faithful battle cry for American Pride.
I came home to West Virginia to hug my mom and dad
and I cried like a baby once again.
Well I guess I’ve seen my share of the good and the bad
of a war tucked away in the heart of man.
And I’m not the same American that I was before
I heard that battle cry and they shipped me off to war.
I believe I’m stronger. Oh, I believe I’m stronger somehow.
And I’m proud of America I’m proud to be home with you
And I’m free – America we’re free
If we don’t take for granted what freedom’s done for you
Let’s not forget the fallen soldiers – the wounded and the dead
who left the barren desert painted crimson red.
I can almost hear their faithful battle cry for American Pride.
The Army soldiers they are marching on the shore
On that horizon the Navy is aboard.
And over yonder the birds are in flight
As a few good Marines are ready to fight.
CauseI’m proud of America I’m proud to be home with you
And I’m free – America we’re free
If we don’t take for granted what freedom’s done for you
Let’s not forget the fallen soldiers – the wounded and the dead
who left the barren desert painted crimson red.
I can almost hear their faithful battle cry for American Pride.
